Do I need special buy clothes for Linedancing?

Anything goes – although we don’t see a lot of gingham shirts or lurex! Just wear what you enjoy wearing. Bear in mind you may start off cool and end up hot, so removable layers are a good idea.   The most important thing is what you wear on your feet.  Sensible day shoes or trainers that will support the foot and ankle whilst you are twisting and turning are an absolute must.  Sandals, slip-ons, wellies, fashion shoes with high heels are not advisable as it is easy to twist your ankle or slip on the dance floor.   Cowboy boots are good because they have ankle support and a hard sole for whirling and twirling although recently, dance practice shoes and special trainer style dance shoes have become popular.

What sort of music is involved?
There are dances choreographed to all different styles of music including, rock and pop, Latin rhythms and even musicals.   Currently there are dances to Scooch (the UK Eurovision entry) and Mikka!  You will be extremely surprised just what is included - Linedancing is not just country & western music!

Is line dancing good exercise?
Line dancing is excellent exercise. As well as getting you moving and improving your general level of fitness, it improves balance and co-ordination, and helps maintain bone density in the legs and hips. It is suitable for all ages as each dancer can choose how much effort they put in. If you have a particular health concern please talk to your doctor and the teacher first.

I love dancing, but I have two left feet – should I come along?
Come along and give it a go. Most beginners take a few months to get to grips with the steps and your co-ordination should improve. We expect to have some collisions!

What happens at a party night?
Party nights are an opportunity to show off or practice what you’ve learned. Usually they are once a month instead of an ordinary class on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and on Saturdays at Long Sutton. They are also an opportunity to put on some glitz and glam and have a good natter. Expect to hear such phrases as ‘How does this one start?’, ‘Which way do we go?’ and ‘Oops, sorry, I hope that didn’t hurt’.
